The Importance of Family Meals During Thanksgiving
Posted on Nov 23, 2015 by Maggie LaBarbera
It is Thanksgiving week and we have talked about the cost of Thanksgiving meals, the way to budget and even food marketing. Oh and of course, food safety during Thanksgiving time. So all in all, we covered a lot of the main but very integral topics associated with healthy eating during Thanksgiving.
But Thanksgiving is more than about food. It is really about that time of the year where no matter where we are and what is going on in our lives, we focus on family time. We make time to come together and eat as a family and enjoy each other’s company as we gather around a very special meal.
I don’t want to lose sight of that as we talk about nutrition and kids health because family mealtime and family bonding time is a cornerstone for raising healthy children.
I know that I will be enjoying Thanksgiving meal with my kids as my son and daughter-in-law host their very first Thanksgiving dinner in their new home. We all are cooking a part of the meal so that we come together as a family, each bringing our contribution to the meal, for some very special and memorable family time.
I am very thankful for all the wonderful blessings I have in my life and to have this opportunity to be with the oldest member of our family (my mom!) and the youngest member of our family (my grandson). I am so excited to be together and thankful that we have these special days to remind us what is most important and bring us together to once again, share a special family meal.
This will be another wonderful memory to store in our family album of treasured family time. Let’s all stop and remember that Thanksgiving is more than food, it’s about family.
Monday’s Nourishing Thought:
Take a moment to be thankful all the blessings that family brings.
